Current Council Projects and Initiatives in Walker Ward

WOOD STREET PARK PATH UPGRADE
Following an earlier project to install lighting along the path in Wood Park between Mt Pleasant Road and Wood Street Nunawading - the existing gravel path is being considered for an upgraded to avoid it becoming washed out during storm events. Council during the 2023/24 year aim to undertake site investigation, concept design and community consul
Residents are fed up with the volume and size of traffic through their once quiet street in Mitcham. There have been many instances of large trucks causing damage. Residents came to me with a petition which included asking Council to install speed humps.

NUNAWADING SHOPPING CENTRE UPGRADE
Council is upgrading the streetscape at Nunawading Shopping Centre.
Works are planned to commence on the east side of Springvale Road (KFC to Walkers Road) late April or early May and expected to be complete by late July 2024, subject to weather.
While works are underway, all commuters on foot will be re-directed to the west side of Springvale Road, via the pedestrian crossings at Whitehorse Road and Nunawading Station.
Works on the west side (Oval Way to the boundary of the Shell Service Station) are planned to follow, subject to obtaining authorisation from the Department of Transport and Planning
The key features of the streetscape improvements are:
-
sawn bluestone feature paving 'nodes' (key street corners opposite Nunawading Station)
-
exposed aggregate concrete footpaths with some small sections of asphalt footpath
-
raised pedestrian platforms at Silver Grove and Oval Way
-
widening of the footpath opposite 132-140 Springvale Road (by pushing the kerb out and using excess road width)
-
new seating, bins, bike racks
-
new garden beds and street trees
-
no changes to car parking
